The Sanctuary Choir was under the direction of Professor Howard Ruthus Mann for more than 42 years. He wrote the choir's signature piece "Teach us to pray". Professor Mann served alongside of the church's former pastors. The Choir is now led by the church's Minister of Music Dr. Gregory Hopkins. The sanctuary choir is an adult choir that ministers in a variety of styles of music, from classical to gospel. In the choir's twice annual concerts they have performed repertoire from Bach's St. "Matthew Passion" to Verdi's "Requiem". Although all volunteers, they are not strangers to hard work for the glory of God. Other musical genres include: Negro spirituals, Hymns and gospel music. The Choir has recorded a CD on the Naxos label entitled "Amazing Grace" along with Metropolitan Opera Mezzo-Soprano, Barbara Conrad. This CD was nominated for a Grammy. The brilliant Church Organist is Raphael Fusco. ”Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise” Psalm 98.

The Male Choir: “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity” Psalm133, this scripture is one of the chosen mottos of the Male Choir. This choir was re-established in the church by Juanita David. The men’s choir is an enthusiastic group whose music is varied and inspiring. In addition to singing at Convent, the Men are proud to provide services at the Mission Homeless Shelter. They received an award from the Gospel Music Preservation Society for best Male Choir. They have performed at Baruch College, Town Hall and Carnegie Hall and made a tour that included cities in New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. The choir director is Dr. Gregory Hopkins, who also serves as Minister of Music.

The Voices of Convent specialize in the traditional gospel music of the African-American Church. This group was founded as the result of a merger between the old Gospel Chorus and the Prayer Meeting Choir. At that time they were the largest church choir in the area. The "Voices" were recognized all over the city and popularized their "All- Request" Concerts. Some of the former musical leaders include: Aaron Brown, Kenneth Thornton, Ramon Reeburgh, Joe Hickson, Pamela Mann, Lee Allen, Bowens and Kyles. They along with the choir served the church and community well. The "Voices" were blessed to sing at St Patrick's Cathedral and the NY World's Fair. The tradition continues with Elana King, Director and Jeremy Jordan, Church Pianist.

The Inspirational Ensembles repertoire covers a wide range of musical styles, which include Traditional and Contemporary Gospel, Negro Spirituals, Anthems and a number of original compositions written by its members. The selections all have one common theme and that is to proclaim the power of God through Jesus Christ. Founded in 1982 by former director Juanita David and is presently under the direction of the world-renowned tenor, Professor Gregory H. Hopkins. Under his leadership, the Ensemble has grown to over thirty-plus members, primarily composed of young adults.

Professor Gregory Hopkins has been the Minister of Music at Harlem's Convent Avenue Baptict Church for 30 years. He is a Minister of Music, Singer, Choral Conductor, Coach, and Clinician.
